Strike Authorization Vote Passes Overwhelmingly

Straight from our bargaining team:

This week, classified student services workers took a bold and decisive stand for a fair contract and a better Oregon University System.

On campuses throughout OUS, our members voted overwhelmingly to give our bargaining team the authority to call a strike. Because the response was so immense, we are standing by our ten-day notice to strike with OUS.

We will continue to bargain this weekend; however, if management is not willing to move on proposals that return us to economic security and reinvest in student services, we will call for a strike beginning September 23. Please join us for a strike preparation picket or a strike captain training (contact your organizer and watch http://www.seiu503.org for more information).

We’ve known from the beginning that this would be a tough campaign. We’ve seen management underestimate and attempt to undermine us at every step, and each time we’ve shown that we won’t back down. We’re honored to continue to stand with you as we move our fight forward.

In solidarity,

Marc Nisenfeld, PSU (Chair)
Helen Moore, EOU
Bob Klem, OIT
Donna Stevenson, OSU
Rob Fullmer, PSU
Bob Sexton, SOU
Kurt Willcox, UO
Angie Barry, WOU
