SEIU 085 President Gary Malone started off the meeting by reading the agenda.
SEIU Field Organizer Denise Garrett gave more information about the step schedule and how it would effect workers on campus.
A new petition was launched to deliver to the state legislation. The petition is to inspire the legislation to approving funding so step increases can begin earlier than July 1st, 2014.
Gary Malone took the floor once again to talk about the upcoming union elections and encouraged people to run for offices. More information can be found here.
The Election Committee was introduced and Richard Daniels conveyed how joining the committee improved his understanding of the union and hoped that more people would join in the future.
Kurt Wilcox and SEIU Field Organizer Norma Martinez-HoSang talked about visiting the state legislation.
Brain Caufield, the lead negotiator for OUS during the contract negotiations, will be visiting campus January 21st, 11:30 AM – 12:30 AM in the EMU Ben Linder Room. Members are asked to come and show unity.
The last speaker was Political Coordinator James Jacobson and he covered the unification of SEIU 503 and SEIU 49. This a unification not merger which means a combination of public and private sector unions. Local 49 represents workers in Southern Washington and Oregon with a membership of over 10,000. The process was started by Local 49 and more information can be found here.
