We are proud and pleased that our local has been invited to support three student sponsored rallies in the next few days. The Labor Choir will be singing at each rally! Please join us and wear your SEIU purple!
- Thursday, April 24, 2014—Take Back the Night—this is the first year the ASUO Women’s Center asked our local to participate in this event which is in its 9th year. Our Executive Committee has enthusiastically endorsed it! It is a rally/march/speak out to end sexual violence. The Labor Choir will be opening the event at 6pm at the EMU Amphitheater and will be marching to LCC Downtown Titan Court from there. Dorothy has written a couple of new songs just for this event. We would love to have you join us!
- Friday, April 25, 2014—GTFF rally at Johnson Hall at Noon. Let’s support the GTFF’s during their bargaining with UO administration as they did during our bargaining last year. “Having large numbers of classified staff, faculty, and students there as well will be essential for our sending a message of strength and unity to the administration.” It will help them a lot to show up in purple and march with them while joining in the singing, chanting and shouting out! The Labor Choir will sing toward the later part of the rally and a representative from our local will speak.
- Thursday, May 1, 2014—May Day at the UO. Meet at noon at courtyard in front of PLC. Let’s show everyone what International Worker’s Day is all about! Support the Graduate Teachers (GTFF) and McKenzie/Willamette Hospital workers (SEIU 49). Both Unions are in tough bargaining. Will these workers be forced to strike? The Labor Choir will sing and lead the march from PLC to Johnson Hall. Student Labor Action Project (SLAP), United Academics and ESSN will be there, too. Please join us!
