Our new local president, Theodora Ko-Thompson, kicked off the meeting by talking about recent staffing changes at SEIU 503 and who will be field organizers for the University of Oregon.
Then Theodora and former president Carla McNally exchanged gifts. Theodora gave Carla flowers in honor of her leaving the university to pursue her post-doctoral research. Carla gave Theodora a bag full of SEIU and purple goodies that was originally given to her by a former SEIU member.
Johnny Earl, Chief Bargaining Delegate, gave some bargaining updates from just the day before at Western Oregon University. The hope is that Southern Oregon University will step and start bargaining. There has been small progress but the economic issues, such as step freezes and health insurance costs need to be worked on.
Following Johnny was the Labor Choir who performed a new song.
Lois Yoshishige, the Chief CAT, talked about a petition for a fellow classified work that had been harassed out of her job. She then spoke about the upcoming July 9th rally and how we all need to show up to show USSE how serious we are about getting a fair contract.
Brittany Brown spoke on behalf of the Strike Hardship Committee who will be holding to upcoming fundraisers. One is July 15th through Track Town Pizza and materials will be distributed soon. Another fundraiser will be held in October at Oakshire Brewery.
The final speaker was Kurt Wilcox who gave an update about the UO Board of Trustees. He is advocating for more time and a specific time for public comment as well as the Board meeting to be lived broadcast so more people can participate . At the last meeting Board meeting, Dorothy Attneave, Johnny Earl, and Theodora Ko-Thompson spoke on many issues.
