First, know that time is of the essence. The contract states that within five days of receiving the notice of layoff, the employee should contact UO Human Resources, indicating their desire to exercise layoff rights.
The University shall then endeavor to place the employee in a new job according to the following order:
- Vacant Position (current and future)
- Bumping Process (according to seniority)
- Demotion to a position in a salary range as close to his/her current salary range as possible.
If these options are not feasible, the employee will be laid off and placed on a recall list for 1-2 years depending on circumstances. (There are of course more details and specifics in the Contract.)
